Victor Figueroa joined EDEN in August 2005 as a part-time custodian, and it wasn’t long before he proved himself to be a considerate and diligent employee. His responsibilities include cleaning EDEN-owned properties, as well as providing occasional custodian help at the EDEN offices or Emerald Commons. No matter what the task, Victor applies his strong work ethic and is sure to do his best.
“Victor always displays great care in his cleaning,” says his supervisor Cindy Megrey. “He takes great pride in how the buildings look.”
Every day when he arrives for work, Victor checks in to receive his daily duties and then travels to various EDEN properties. While he might occasionally be sent out with a teammate, he usually works on his own and enjoys the independence. He also values the variety EDEN offers. He previously worked at a hospital, where he completed the same tasks every day.
“I get to go to different buildings here,” he says of his work with EDEN, which is not as repetitive. “That’s what I like about it.”
A Giving Nature
Victor genuinely likes to help other people—even more than he helps himself. According to Cindy, Victor has a quiet and modest way of helping others. “He’s always giving,” she says. “He does little things on the side for other people, and you would never know it.”
Once, Victor offered his coat to a woman on a chilly winter day. And sometimes, if he has spare change in his pockets, he might drop a quarter on the floor of an EDEN property in hopes of making a tenant’s day. “If they someone finds it, that might make them feel good,” he explains.
Victor says he was happy and excited to be named employee of the month, and he’s glad his efforts were recognized.
“I appreciate you noticing my work,” he says to the management team who selected him. “I felt I was doing a good job, but when you named me employee of the month, I knew I was doing a good job.”
Thanks to Victor, EDEN tenants are able to live in clean, well-cared for properties. And that’s something everyone is grateful to give.
